Katharine N. Farrell, Ph.D., is an ecological economist and political theorist whose work focuses on the political economy of knowledge in environmental governance. She is currently affiliated with universities in Germany and Spain and is visiting professor with Universidad del Magdalena (Colombia) with the SMART University Initiative. Her current and recent activities related to the study of commons include empirical studies, ecological economics theory work, and the production and maintenance of public education as a knowledge commons in The Anthropocene. Recently she started engaging this last topic through collaborations with the Universidad del Magdalena in Colombia, supporting its initiative to become an inclusive and innovative Third Generation University where inter- and transdisciplinarity serve the creation of social value.
